How to Choose a Stretch Wrap Machine

Step 1, Assess your load type

The load drives everything. A machine that wraps a dense, stable pallet beautifully can crush or fail to contain a different one. Ask:

  • Stable or unstable? Bricks of product hold their shape; boxes of loose parts, tall stacks, or top-heavy loads shift and need higher containment force and roping.
  • Heavy or light? A very heavy pallet is hard to spin safely on a turntable; a very light load can slide or topple when spun fast. Both point toward a rotary-arm machine, where the load stays put and the arm rotates.
  • Consistent or varied? If every pallet is roughly the same size and weight, automation is easy to dial in. Highly varied loads favor flexible semi-automatic control or programmable automatic recipes.

Step 2, Count your daily pallet volume

Volume is the biggest predictor of how much automation pays off. As a rough guide:

  • Under ~15 pallets/day, a semi-automatic turntable is usually plenty.
  • ~15–50 pallets/day, a heavier-duty semi-automatic or an automatic turntable earns its keep.
  • 50+ pallets/day, automatic or fully automatic inline systems start to pay for themselves in labor.

Step 3, Define your throughput needs

Daily volume isn't the whole story, when those pallets ship matters. If your loads leave in an even trickle, a semi-automatic keeps up easily. If they surge at the end of a shift or must flow off a conveyor without stopping, you need faster cycle times, auto film attach and cut, or full inline integration so wrapping never becomes the bottleneck.
